Greiner Bio-One GmbH
will invest 61 million Euro in expansion projects. The company’s target
is to become the world’s top manufacturer of blood collection systems.
Bio-One, specialized
in blood collection systems (BAS), plans for record investments in its
factories. According to CEO Franz Konrad, 61 million Euro should be
invested in 2008 an 2009 in extension of existing and establishment of
new production facilities in 17 locations.
The focus will be
the enlargement of the HQ in Kremsmuenster/Austria to increase the
capacity by one quarter to become the largest blood collection factory
in the world (1 billion BAS annually) and a newly built factory in
Thailand with a capacity of 100 million BAS.
Both investments
will enable the company to produce 1.4 billion BAS per year. “Our goal
is to become market leader in this field”, Franz Konrad said. Currently
the US-company Becton-Dickinson holds this position with 3 billion
pieces per year. But Bio-One is closing-up rapidly. The market is
propelled by demand from China which consumes 350 million pieces – a
7-fold increase from 2003. China will be served, like all of Asia, from
the factory in Thailand. The Thai factory, whose construction was
interrupted by a military coup, should be opened in May this year. Seven
million Euro have been invested. “We will then annually increase our
investment step by step”, Konrad said.
