Amata Corp Plc, the country's largest industrial estate developer, and
Japan's Sumitomo Corp will jointly invest 12.8 billion baht to build a
280-megawatt co-generation power plant in Thailand.
Chief operating officer Viboon Kromadit said construction of the first
phase of the power plant, with a 170 MW capacity, would begin next year
and the plant would start operating in 2012. The facility, which would
be located in Amata City in Rayong, would supply 90 MW to the
Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) under the Small
Power Producer (SPP) programme.
Sumitomo, which holds 30% of the SPP project, would acquire the
remaining 80 MW to serve its rubber factory located on the estate, Mr.
Viboon said.
The 110-MW second phase would begin construction in 2012, and the entire
project is scheduled to be complete in two years, he added.
The overall investment cost is 12.8 billion baht, 8% of which would be
invested by Amata City in the form of land with the remainder belonging
to Amata Power, a joint venture of Amata Corp, B Grimm and Sumitomo.
