A total of 46 clean-energy projects under the clean development mechanism (CDM) have been approved by Thailand, which should cut greenhouse-gas emissions by 3.2 million tonnes, according to the Energy Ministry. Most of the projects are in power generation.
Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (PTT) and Bangchak Petroleum have been assigned to study ways to meet to government's policy of reducing greenhouse gases by 15-20 per cent.
Energy Minister Wannarat Charnnukul said PTT in cooperation with the Mineral Fuels Department has employed the carbon capture sequestration technology to suppress greenhouse gas underground. The Australian government provides support with academic assistance.
