Thailand witnessed a 27.4 per cent annualised increase in June exports
to a record US$16.3 billion, against the $15.6 billion imports which
resulted in a trade surplus in the month, according to the Commerce
Ministry.
The ministry said in the press conference on Tuesday that imports rose
30.7 per cent to $15.6 billion last month after increasing 15.7 per cent
in May.
Trade surplus in the month totalled $628 million, according to Commerce
Permanent Secretary Siripol Yodmuangcharoen. The surplus could have been
higher but for the soaring oil prices in the month, which boosted energy
import bills by 66.4 per cent year on year.
Export value in the first six months of this year is $87.2 billion, up
23.1 per cent year on year. Against imports of $88.28 billion in the
same period, up 33.6 per cent, Thailand registered a trade deficit of
$1.07 billion.
