Marubeni wins cogeneration power plant order in Thailand

Major Japanese trading house Marubeni Corp. said Wednesday it has received an order to build a gas-fired cogeneration power plant from an electricity producer in Thailand.

Marubeni won the order, worth some 33 billion yen, from Glow Energy Public Co., in a consortium with major U.S. engineering firm Black & Veatch.

Under the agreement, Marubeni will build the plant by September 2011, with a maximum output capacity of 380 megawatts in the Map Ta Phut industrial estate in Rayong Province, Eastern Thailand. The electricity will be supplied to the industrial area.

The industrial area is governed by one of the most stringent environmental regulations in Thailand. To help win approval for the new plant, Glow Energy has set aside funds to remodel the site's existing plant, to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxide and sulfur oxide.
