Toshiba operations to resume normalcy in 2012

(The Nation, 26.10.2011)

Toshiba Thailand Co Ltd vows to resume normal operations and services in 2012, after nine of its 10 plants in Thailand are submerged in water.

In a statement, Toshiba said that nine factories in Bangkadi Industrial Park and one in Nava Nakorn Industrial Estate, both in Pathum Thani, are flooded. Only one plant in Nonthaburi, which manufactures one-door refrigerator and digital kitchen appliances, remains operational though most employees' houses are flooded and they are evacuated to provided areas.

"All at Toshiba is not desperate. We will overcome the crisis as soon as possible. The parent company, Toshiba Corp, extended its intention for continued supports without a plan to relocate the investment. Toshiba Thailand promises that the company and all employees will resume the full-scale marketing and manufacturing within early 2012," it said.

It also vowed not to lay off any workers and they will enjoy similar pays.

To clients, it said new orders would be a way to help its recovery efforts. Meanwhile, a special team of machanics will be dispatched to assist consumers and dealers in seriously-hit provinces.
