Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro) Bangkok president Munenori Yamada expressed confidence in Thailand's trade and investment, Deputy Minister of Commerce Alongkorn Ponlaboot said on Saturday. "Mr Yamada is happy with the way the Thai government is resolving the political crisis smoothly and he also sees that Thailand still has trade and investment potentials for Japanese businesses" Mr Alongkorn said. He said the Commerce Ministry will hold a meeting with foreign commerce ambassadors, the Joint Foreign Chambers of Commerce in Thailand (JFCCT) and foreign businessmen on Thursday. The ministry will explain the overall situation in the country, listen to the participants' views and suggestions and discuss the impact of the political violence in May. Mr Alongkorn said the JETRO Bangkok president also supported Thailand as the logistics hub in Indochina and expressed interest in the country's West Gate and East Gate. The West Gate links the trade routes from northern, western and southern provinces to Burma, while the East Gate connects the country's trade routes with Laos and Vietnam.
